About Me

Hello. My name is Sandra and I have been attending a liberal meeting in Maryland (USA)for about two months. Prior to that I had not attended any kind of religious gathering for more than 20 years. A little more than a year ago I became interested in Plain dress and began to dress Plain on a part time basis; I found this gave me a sense of peace and a new-found spirituality.  I now read my Bible (almost) every day, and my meeting does have a monthly Bible class which I attend.

A Plain friend turned me on to this forum and I welcome any help and support the friends here can give me. I appreciate that I have a lot of catching up to do, but on the plus side I hail from Yorkshire, so maybe Quakerism is in my blood somewhere!

Hello fellow Quaker called to plain dress. I felt called to cover and ignored it years ago out of fear of being seen as totally eccentric...but I have finally converted.
Still need more plain dresses but have fabric for three to sew. I belong to an Evangelical Quaker church which is totally modern but tolerates me :)

Hello Sandra. Interested that you hail from Yorkshire. That is pretty close to where I live - in North Lincolnshire. I was hoping this site may have reached Britain, but we seem thinon the ground. BYM is not merely liberal, it doesn't know where it is. We have no real choice as virtually all Friends belong to BYM. I have been attached to Friends since 1966 when I lived in London. I did resign my membership once, but rejoined a couple of years ago. But I feel VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. My wife is a Friend too (and my daughter but she has not atended anywhere for years). I do need a forum like this because I feel almost an outcast - except in my own beautiful meeting in Gainsborough. We had a very good meeting yesterday. I don't dress plain nor speak 17th century either. Did visit a Quaker once when I was in Virginia some years ago.
Well there's my first contribution. Anyone else out there wants to talk to me?
