About Me

Friends,

I'm a 57 year old single man with three children who are all out on their own. Since there are no Friends' meetings within an affordable driving range of our home here in Texas, this forum is another way to meet with some Friends.

About Me

I've begun attending Quaker Meeting over the last year or two and have been  reading what I can on Quaker faith and practice, with one  foot  still in the Anglican traditional churches.

Married with two daughters in their twenties and an aging golden retriever, I currently work in a small office as an administrative assistant.  My interests include reading and writing.

I live with my family in Hamilton, Ontario and enjoy vacations in Maine.

About Me

I am a member of and grew up in Stillwater Monthly Meeting of Ohio Yearly Meeting, and graduated from Olney Friends School in Barnesville. I have been on OYM's historical and their peace and human relations committees for several years. My mother is a recorded minister there. She came from a long line of Friends. She has also been involved in the Olney School Board. My father was a Methodist, but became a convinced Friend when I was around 8. His family were mostly eastern Ohio Scots-Irish Presbyterians/Covenanters who settled here after fighting in the Revolutionary War. Interestingly, my 6th g-grandmother who was rescued from being raised by Indians, came north from Georgia during the Revolutionary War with the Quakers, is buried in the same graveyard in Bethesda, Ohio as my lay Methodist Minister grandfather. I have 4 children, 3 by my first marriage, and 1 by my current husband, Bruce Cowen. He is very involved in the local Presbyterian Church where my father's family calls home. The oldest of my children is a member of this forum, the second has graduated from Guilford College; the 3rd is at Wilmington, and we are homeschooling the 4th.

About Me

I am a minister in a pastoral meeting which belongs to the much-troubled Western Yearly Meeting.  Having attended the Friends youth group at a local meeting when I was in high school, I was a member of another denomination in which I was later ordained.

About Me

My name is Sue, I am 54 years old, married with two grown up sons. I live in Ely, near Cambridge, UK.  We have two dogs and three Bengal cats (two brown spotteds and one blue eyed marbled snow) who tend to run our lives if we let them.  I have been a Christian for many many years and became very disheartened by the control of the leaders in some churches and the rot finally set in when fundamentalism started to become more widespread in the UK.  I happened upon Quakers over two years ago quite by chance (or not!) and read all I could about them. I attended my local liberal meeting for a while and attended BYM also. I found I was unable to sit happily with the liberal views expressed and after several Christian attenders were made to feel unwelcome I stopped attending too.  By this time, to my joy, I had made contact with several Conservative Quakers in the UK. Two years on, I am still convinced that this is the path I am to travel and haven't had any misgivings.  I have read a lot of material on this site and thought I already was a member!  However, I wasn't, but am delighted to be so now!
