Hello Friends, I'm Paul from Texas and I am relatively new to Quakerism and have become very refreshed after months of study and attending several meetings over a year's time. I'll soon head out for South America to relocate. Shortly to open a food mission along with a Meeting House in Paraguay. Currently, there are several other groups working here and there among a predominately Roman Catholic population.much of which is relatively poor and under educated. There is a sharp distinction among the socio economic classes largely due to a combination of factors which have been prevalent in the country for many years. All of this was exasperated by the politics of dictatorships. Primarily the groups working in the country other than the Catholics consist of Mennonites, Baptists, Assembly of God and Anglicans. All of this was more or less made possible on my first visit down there several years ago. Ot was such a moving experience to witness the massive numbers of hungry people, mostly children. So after already being a minister I was suddenly presented with the overwhelming directive to start working toward making the food mission a reality along with the Meeting House. We also have plans for a school later. Here I am a short while until I actually start things and that's where the Conservative Friends come into this equation. Here in Texas we have only Liberal or independent Friends around where I am located and some Evangelicals in the south east which is almost three hours away. No Conservatives! Thus I will ask to be an affiliate member until a little later. I am happy to be here and a part of this forum and a goup of like-minded Friends. Thanks for reading. | |
