Phil sounds categorically against that concept and admonition. Having spent a little time around Western Yearly Meeting (where Phil resides, is recorded and preaches), I can appreciate why this is his sentiment. Having also seen folks confident that they have a connection to God with no static; I see value and wisdom in our traditions of comparing leadings & what we hear; voicing concerns to those whose words & actions seem to perhaps come from sources they are not aware of or acknowledging; and being generally leery of messages & understandings that are outside the community’s bell curve.                                                                                                                                     

What resonates strongly with me is Phil's clarity in stating God remains ahead of us always. Beckoning us forward always. Asking us to step up, step forward, take the uncertain path. Asking us to NOT wait until we are certain. Never asking those poor in anything to wait for the Kingdom of Heaven. We only create the Kingdom by being a part of the Creation. By honoring the Creator with our attention to Life. Conserve values. Conserve processes and lifestyles that work toward that creation. Conserve Life. Avoid the 'conservation' of a leaf under glass that too much waiting for the Guide represents. The Guide is ALWAYS ahead of and before us. Whichever way we turn. Whichever way we step.
