Like so many other people, I have thought about what needs to change in my life and habits to make things better in the coming New Year. I have found that I need to eat more nutritiously, and in smaller portions to better my health. I need to spend less time online and devote more time to prayer, Bible reading, and having some quiet time with God everyday. My family, spiritual community at the Quaker Meeting, and Friends will be a focus as well. Sometimes I pay too much attention to the wider world of news, crime, humanity being cruel and destructive, and that drains me. What gives me energy is sharing love and spending time in the smaller world. I shall be in the world, yet not of the world.

You may have noticed the picture above this posting. The Bible lit by a candle. This is to symbolized my devotions, reading the Bible in light of what Christ shows me and teaches me inwardly. He is the Light. He is the Logos, Word, and Mind of God revealed to us. He shall direct my paths and light my way.

I plan to read the entire Bible in one year by following the suggested readings here:

I will also include daily prayer and silent waiting in the Quaker style of worship.

The spring semester begins in just over a week, and I shall be doing my devotions, work for school and Quaker Meetings, and then spending time online.  That way I can get the most from the time that I have.

Well, John, you're a hard act to follow, that's for sure. I'll be happy if I can just spend as much time in daily worship as I think I need to.

John 1:4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

That's what it's all about. The Logos is the Light.

May 2010 be a good year spiritually as I spend more time in silence listening to the reality, goodness, wisdom, care, and life inside of me that moves and

guides my heart and life and empowers us to be 'a Friend to all'.  This year I plan to read, listen to and watch a lot of past and present Friends media, the Bible and a variety of other spiritual media but that Inner Light that guides my heart and life in truth, peace, care and giving life empowering us to become

'a Friend to all' will take first place and be their interpreter.   Friends, I'm 55, have had 3 major right shoulder injuries, live in a county with a 20% poverty index, the AARP says that only about 3% of people 50 and over get hired in Texas and I was unemployed throughout all of 2009.  So, in 2010 I also look forward to finding work that I can do (I have limited lifting with my right arm ;) which will enable me to help support my 3 children ages 19, 21 and 26, enable me to give to others, enable me to drive to a  meeting and fellowship for the 1st time with Friends and enable me to hopefully start and sustain a relationship with a kind, joyful and positive lady who is 'a Friend to all'.

Have a Good 2010 Friends,

Tim Kelty
